I arrived home yesterday morning after a 13 hour flight and so have been not quite with it since. Jet-lag is a funny old thing.
My trip was amazing but I couldn’t keep up with the blog posts after the 4th day as I had shoots planned everyday from Tuesday last week.
Here is my experience of Recoleta which is one of the most extraordinary places I have been to. So many people who knew I was coming to Buenos Aires told me to come here.
Monday morning. It is raining – again. But it seemed quite apt going to visit a cemetery.
La Recoleta contains mausoleums with statues and marble in varied architectural styles varying from Art Deco to Baroque to Art Nouveau. It is set out as in streets and the main walkway is tree lined. The most famous people laid to rest there are here Eva Peron (her family name is Duarte), Nobel prize winners, grand-daughter of Napoleon and also presidents of Argentina. It has been voted one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world.
The one mausoleum I wanted to see was Eva Peron’s or her family tomb – Duarte. This was obviously a big attraction and I had to queue in the rain with Japanese tourists in front of me with multi coloured umbrellas.
One of the unusual things to see were the well fed cemetery cats sheltering from the rain on the steps of the mausoleums.
